History

   Faculty is one of the oldest divisions of Kharkiv National University V.N. Karazin. The glory of the faculty brought a whole galaxy of outstanding scientists and educators - winner of the Nobel Prize LD Landau, academics I.M. Lifshitz, M.P. Barabashov, B.I. Verkin, V.G. Hotkevich, E.A. Kaner, A. Kosevich, and many others, the founders of scientific and educational schools - Professors E. Borovik, B.Ya. Pines, I. Shklyarevskyy, YA.O. Hehuzin.

Faculty and its units

   The faculty trained 245 students and graduate students. Among the faculty and the faculty for more than 33 doctors, professors and 42 Ph.D., associate professors.
   Faculty - large educational, research and scientific center for physics in Ukraine. It consists of: Department of Experimental Physics, Department of Mathematics, Department of Physics Department of Theoretical Physics, Department of Low Temperature Physics, Department of Solid State Physics, Department of Physics of Crystals, Department of Physical Optics, Astronomy Department, research and scientific teaching laboratory a unique helium zridzhuvalna station, mechanical shop.
   Faculty works closely with leading academic institutions of Kharkov - Ukraine NSC KIPT NASU, IRE RAS. A.J.Usikova National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, with branches in the departments ILTPE them. B.I. Verkin NAS Ukraine, STC 'Institute for Single Crystals "NAS of Ukraine.
   The faculty are international scientific conferences on physical phenomena in solids, held annually and student research, student conferences, etc.. Staff, postgraduates and students of the Faculty of Physics in joint research and are trained in leading scientific institutions in Ukraine and abroad, including Universities in Exeter (UK), Bochum, Duisburg-Essen, Munster (Germany), Minneapolis (USA).

Areas of research

   In the Physics Department are leading scientists, led them, maintaining strong traditions and schools, conducted basic and applied research on various problems of theoretical and experimental physics using modern research techniques and computer technology. Representatives of the world-famous scientific school of the Landau-Lifshitz developed quantum theory of nanosystems, created the theory of nonlinear phenomena in solids. Actively investigated powder nanomaterials, devices that are the basis for superdense magnetic recording, modern problem of superconductivity, electronic properties of normal metals, optical effects in nanoscale metal films, mass transfer mechanisms in defective crystals, plastic patterns and nadplastychnoyi deformation and fracture of metals and alloys, etc.. Research in physics biomaterials have become the foundation for the creation of implantation materials are successfully implemented in clinical practice.
   The Department of Astronomy, which is affiliated with the Institute of Astronomy of the University and RIAN National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, conducted research to study the properties of stars, surface space-body problem and asteroid hazard extraterrestrial resources by remote sensing of the Earth and planets, which is concerned with environmental issues humanity.

Student Life

   Faculty known not only fundamental education, but also excellent student traditions. VCard Physics Department for many years a celebration of the faculty (DB), in which are press-conference of teachers and students, torch procession to sources in the botanical garden and large concert guests and hosts.
